Lars Egeland Writes Editorial About Natural Nudity & Body Image in Norway

Natural Nudity – In 2013, 2013, is an election year in Norway. On September 9th, the country’s citizens will choose the authorities which will be in place for the next four years. When compared with the United States and many other nations, Norway has very little to worry about economically or socially. Which is in part why the following editorial by current parliament member Lars Egeland the only openly nudist member of parliament stuck out from all another election-year rhetoric.
The Socialist Left Party, of which Egeland is a member, is among the tiniest of Norway’s major parties, having increased just about 6.5% of the vote in the 2009 elections. But from a policy perspective, it is a leader on issues of environmentalism, equality and thanks to Egeland body acceptance. In the editorial below, Egeland discusses his feelings about naturism from both a private and political outlook.

At once they’ve been so timid that they don’t dare shower nude after physical education class at school. 70 percent of all middle schools in Norway report that students shower in boxer shorts. But it does not merely have to do with the young. Water-parks all over Norway have had to start a campaign called Constantly Shower Nude. As Wenche Bjornebekk said in a editorial in Aftenposten before this year: young girls know everything about anal sex, but have never seen their classmates nude.

Is this a hygiene problem that just concerns how much chlorine is in the pools and rebuilding group showers to single booths? Regrettably not. It’s to do with poor self-understanding that actually makes many folks emotionally ill.

Researchers note the correlation between poor body image and addiction issues including drug use or eating disorders.
But is it a paradox, or a correlation?
I have been a naturist for many years and considered it a private matter. But is has become steadily clearer for me that the body can also be politics.
I ‘ve only believed that it gives a feeling of freedom to swim and sunbathe without clothes. At the same time I ‘ve experienced that the body-focus and gender-fixation of textile beaches is nonexistent on naturist beaches. Bikinis and bathing suits create more sex-focus than when everyone is naked. This really is especially pertinent when it comes to children, who at a steadily younger age are subjected to sexualization. After having seen several thousand men and women without clothing I ‘ve learned that very few have the sort of ideal bodies we encounter in digitally-controlled marketing pictures. They’re fat, skinny, short or tall as well as young and old. And it’s fairly hard to say that one body type trumps all the others. Folks are different and it is the variety that is wonderful.
The connection to nudity is a cultural happening. Many Norwegians are shocked when they come to your German sauna where it is unthinkable to have swimwear on. The German doctrine is rooted in hygiene, but also in comfort and wellbeing. And so come people of most ages and genders to spend the evening together.
There’s a natural correlation between saying no to commercial stripping and yes to natural nudity. We do not say no to stripping because we believe the naked body is wrong or offensive. view ‘ll still manage to strip on your partner without concern with being hit with any moratorium! But the commercial stripping market is closely tied to prostitution. It’s not liberating when men pound beers and look at nude women as things. Both stripping and pornography dwell by double standards. It is no accident that porn’s capital is the United States a nation where people have strong opinions about naked skin.
The Socialist Left party platform has an entire subsection on measures for the reduction of body-fixation, body-oppression and commercialization of the body. It was as part of this subsection that I advocated among the measures should be setting the basis for more natural nudity for instance, by supporting naturism. Whether or not someone decides to swim naked can not be controlled by a party platform.
My recommendation features a acknowledgement that naturists have worked to create safe assembly areas as defined in the by laws of the Norwegian Naturism Association: a lifestyle in harmony with nature, expressed by societal nudity without regard to sex and with the aim of increasing self-respect, respect for other folks and others’ opinions, and respect for the environment.
Nobody can compel someone to prefer nudity. But the experiences of other countries show that if nudity is a more accessible alternative, there are more people who will choose it. If the road to the naturist beach was shorter, if there was an opportunity for family swimming with a common changing room at the swimming hall, more folks would perhaps grow up with a more natural relationship to the human body.
We are dependent on society to evaluate the possibilities for such body-oppression-free zones and set the basis for there to be more of them. It is but one measure that can be taken to get folks to feel content just as they are.

Rape Statistics (over the age of 18)

Rape is a violent and demeaning offense that has existed all around the world for centuries. Regardless of the perpetrator’s reason for perpetrating the crime, rape deprives the victim of any say over what happens to her or his body. Generally the victims are girls, but men also fall victim to this demoralizing crime.
Rape happens once every 2 minutes in the States. Of read , over 80 percent are over 30 years of age. Similar to rape among adolescents, the cases of rape are decreasing steadily over time. In 2009 rape decreased nearly 3 percent from 2008.
So while any quantity of rape cases is upsetting, it is a good sign to see the numbers of episodes decreasing.
Law officials do offer some uncertainty on the accuracy of these figures and voice some concern how tough it really is to actually understand the extent of the issue. Dearth of reporting a rape coupled with bogus reporting cause a distortion in the amounts. But if we should see the amounts truly diminish, then we need every casualty to report the offense!

Suicide among teenagers is continuously on an alarmingly constant climb. It’s been determined that about 1 in 6 teens have thought about committing suicide at some point in their life. Of click , 1 in 12 really attempts the suicide. More females than males attempt suicide, but more men than women actually commit suicide. Many girls may try suicide within an effort to request help. Boys try suicide with the aim to end their lives.
Suicide among amateurs in America rose by 8% in 2004; this is the greatest increase in decades. A decline was witnessed before 2003 when the rate of suicide was 6.78 suicides per 100,000 adolescents in comparison to 1990 figures of 9.48 per 100,000.
Unexpectedly there was a shift and the numbers began increasing again. Female suicide improved from 6.3% in 2009 to 7.8% in 2011. Current data show that almost 10 in 100,000 adolescents attempt suicide, and each day there are 11 teenage suicide victims. 11 dead teens each day!
Teen Eating Disorders Numbers
It was recorded in 1991 that 40% of those diagnosed with eating disorders of bulimia nervosa and anorexia nervosa were teenagers. More than 5 million adolescent girls and 500,000 teenage boys endured with at least one of the eating disorders. Those amounts have been climbing ever since.
In 2004, the amounts were a staggering! There were click suffering from eating disorders!!! Current studies reveal that 25,000 per every million teenagers suffer from at least one eating disorder.
Bullying Statistics (in school)
Bullying among children in school is apparently on the rise, probably due to the various ways children can communicate in today’s technology savvy world. With cell phones, computers, and other means of reaching an outlet to say cruel and hurtful comments, students can say things they may not say in a face-to-face scenario.
Even while in course, pupils are taking pictures, posting opinions on social media and sending texts with their cell phones. Bullying doesn’t have to be done through actual physical interaction, regardless of location.
view suggest that 20.8 percent of students admit to participating in some kind of bullying while at school. This translates into 1 in 7 pupils either being the bully or being the victim of bullying. Perhaps shocking to many is the fact that intimidation has decreased to 41 % in 2008 from 52 % in 2001. Data reveal that bullying is steadily decreasing, but the growing severity of the bullying remains an issue.
School Shootings Data
It appears like school shootings are all too familiar news stories in the world today, yet reports demonstrate that school shootings usually are not on the rise. This fact may seem surprising since the media may tend to indicate otherwise. The first shooting in a school was recorded in 1966. Since then there have been 90 school shootings with a total of 231 departures.

So what will some
adolescents do? Resort to less intimidating individuals to do their

it. The emotional and physical health of our kids are at stake. In some
cases, even their very lives are at stake. Are not these significant enough reasons
to challenge something you have just assumed was accurate all your life?

On their date, Julian and Camille took part in some naked yoga. As Julian tries to adjust Camille’s yoga pose, he promptly gets yet another nude erection. This time he is clearly obstructed as he tries to powerfully push down his erect member.
Camille still strives to make the best of the scenario. They continue doing their unclothed yoga, but Julian’s erect dick makes it difficult for her to relax and love the interaction. Sonoma County, WOHLER BRIDGE
Rapid water, small parking, and a past history of anti-nudity arrests do not
seem to be denting visits to the small nude beach near Wohler Bridge this year.
The Russian River is higher, and its current is running faster than normal, so
use additional caution at Wohler. Although Sonoma County has attempted to discourage naked
beaching via passage of a tough ordinance and occasional raids by deputies,
their regular visits to the small clothes-optional glade near Wohler Bridge
ended years ago and now take place only when complaints are received. “We don’t

limestone slabs (stelai), found at Mycenae and dated 1600 B.C., are signified
chariot-races. All three stelai are decorated with chariot scenes. There is one
charioteer (Fig.5) for each chariot and all three chariot drivers are nude and
unarmed, except for the sword. These chariot races were held as part of the
funeral ceremonies for a chieftain, and therefore, were considered suitable subjects

Did other naturists recognize that beauty pageants are not exactly in line with their ideals? It’s challenging to say how many people were for or against it, but it seems that many saw nothing wrong with it.

From looking through our small private collection of naturist magazines in the 40’s – 60’s, people had a different mindset. Naturists believed they should honor the great thing about the human form and that individuals should strive to realize a healthy, toned physique. Health, during those days, was equated with beauty. (And still is today, with how individuals believe skinny = healthy = beautiful.)
At exactly the same time, it’s not as if naturists didn’t comprehend how naturism promoted body acknowledgement and offered a means of looking beyond superficial qualities.
In a 1958 issue of Canadian nudist magazine Sunbathing For Health, there is an article, written by a female naturist, entitled: “Naturism – What’s inside it for we women?”
The writer writes:
“Many women picture that they would never dare to walk nude amidst a bunch of strangers in any sun club; believe me, I did too, before I ever tried it. ‘But my figure – I Have lost it – I’d feel horrible walking around in the nude,’ you say. The vast majority of the girls (and the guys too!) have probably lost their youthful contours with the passing of the years, but do not let that worry you. Most people are recognized for what they’re as PEOPLE, and not what their vital statistics are!”
But then, in another article, in exactly the same magazine, a female columnist offers exercise and diet guidance to women who are worried about additional fat on their hips. And on the opposite page is an exercise guide aimed at girls for “creating body beauty.”
So the naturist philosophy was not entirely absent. They simply did not look to view it as contradictory to designate only certain bodies as “beautiful.”
Canadian History presents evidence that some nudist club owners were undoubtedly conflicted or against the pageants. On the one hand, they were conscious of the contradictions in placing young, “captivating” female bodies on display to encourage naturism. On the other hand, the amount of promotion and money generated by the pageants was undeniable. It became a cost vs. benefit analysis.
Writers Gentile and Nicholas say that the nudist beauty pageants were supposed to demonstrate the public that nudity was natural, not obscene, or sexual. In Miss Nude World, that basic message was readily lost. The authors came to this decision:
“Nonetheless, while naturist pageants were purportedly intended to support the general public to see the body in a fresh light, the public allure of these events depended on an exploitation of the taboo nature of nudity and made a spectacle of bare bodies. In doing so, these pageants were as revealing of the tensions within nudism as they were of the contestants on stage.”
Moreover, the authors concluded the pageants were a method for naturists to show they were “standard” by using a mainstream kind of event that ad here d to sexual and gender norms. Celebrating girls for his or her attractiveness and femininity, putting them on display, electing a “king” and “queen”..these were means of showing how nudists kept their masculinity / femininity and embraced heterosexual normativity.
Finally, was follow or beneficial to the nudist movement? That’s up for argument.
In the Steins’ view, it was a resounding success and brought more focus on naturism than every other event ever had. At the conclusion of the interview, Stephane asked them if they could return in time, would they change anything? They answered with a resolute “no.”
As for me, I wish nudism hadn’t so readily left its ideals for profit and publicity.

The plaza was just installed about 2 years ago so there was no preceding chance for anyone to be here because “here” didn’t exist. Nudity in the area was common prior to the plaza being assembled, but a number of people hanging out for hours was a new thing that we hadn’t seen before after the plaza was installed.

I believe the trouble started when Wiener initiated the sit-on-a-towel rule? Which attracted a group of other naturists to the region?
The plaza was installed in what still is the road, and opened right after the current supervisor was elected, (the plaza was in the works for years before he arrived nevertheless). Formerly, naked people would walk the neighborhood and generally just congregate at a place called “Hibernia Beach”. This really is a street corner w here a big bank building is, (now called Bank of America), and among the few places in the locality where the sun shines through the shadows brought on by the other buildings. “Hibernia playa” was so named in the 1970’s after the bank that occupied the building back then. It’s been known as a spot to see scantily clad and nude people for decades.
I hadn’t believed the towel rule was a lousy thing for the naturists?
(who commonly sit on a towel regardless, though I figure I can’t attest to the Castro nudists’ towel manner), but what do you think was the true goal behind it?
url was an attempt by the supervisor to get media interest and it worked. Everyone I know already sat on towels as common recognized nudist politeness. The outdoor furniture within SF is just not well preserved, frequently filthy and wouldn’t be safe to place your bare behind on.
If not, do you believe they should’ve been?
The SFPD has no records of arrests for lewd conduct during the previous two years since the plaza was started.
Does one think the exhibitionists are the reason Wiener proposed the nudity prohibition? If so, how should he have handled it? Or is follow -nudity?
Wiener introduced the prohibition to increase his media exposure and pump up his name recognition numbers. I met with him in his office at his invitation prior to the introduction of the laws, and he wasn’t interested in any community based options. click was actually a fishing expedition so he could discover how well organized the nudist activists are and what kind of resistance we would introduce to the laws. There were only ever two guys I saw in the plaza that I ‘d have described as exhibitionists. The actions I discovered was not lewd if you ask me, but did not match up to my comprehension of suitable non-sexual urban nudist behavior either. If you’ll excuse my candidness, standing naked on the corner and making your member twirl like an airplane propeller isn’t good naturist conduct in my opinion, although this actions did not bother me personally.
Do a lot of the Castro nudists wear cock rings? What is your opinion on wearing cock rings in public settings for ornamentation (not sexual) functions?
Personally, I tend not to wear a cock ring. Just a small number of guys do in my observation. I believed this was likely to be a difficulty and I wasn’t in favor of it at first. Afterward I took an opinion poll in my on-line Yahoo group and I saw that the great majority of respondents considered cock rings akin to bracelets and necklaces. After that, I was sufficiently convinced that a cock ring could be no different than any other body jewelry and simply wearing one is not lewd.

Since much of the state, and the world, look to San Francisco as a leader in social change, the prohibition, if passed and implemented, may have a chilling effect on both tolerance and urban naturism well beyond the boundaries of our city.
Can you think naturists should just go naked in clubs, beaches and other “designated places”?
Sequestering folks away behind walls or other borders indicates their conduct is shameful or otherwise unacceptable. Body disgrace is a learned behaviour which is exacerbated when naturists conceal in resorts or other places.
My bottom line is that I believe the human anatomy is an attractive thing in all its many forms. I don’t consider we want to conceal behind garments in public or anywhere else. Body freedom and acceptance isn’t about being nude just at resorts, beaches or clubs.
Just how can nudists prevent this from happening?

Nudity should never be a crime or an offence. Nudity came and we are all born naked. There is a strange taboo outside being offensive about walking around naked, that society propagates, yet it hurts no one. There’s a difference between enjoying being an exhibitionist and being naked.

Just decide your venues and activities carefully, considering you’re lacking clothes; being nude can make your body more vulnerable to cold and damage, and may obviously get you in legal trouble or socially awkward circumstances, according to where you’re.
